  1. First, lets just say that if you need an explanation on how to start a jet ski (the most basic operating function of this vehicle) you should not go out on it alone.  Get someone who knows what they're doing to show you how to drive your jet ski.  I used to work for a manufacturer many years ago, and it made me highly aware of how many deaths and injuries occur every year due to riders who don't understand their jet ski.  these things are very fun and very dangerous as well.

    Now, I'll answer your question:

Assuming the the thing is in proper working condition (battery charged, full of gas, full of two-stroke oil, all systems go, etc):

THIS IS WHAT YOU DO WHILE THE SKI IS STILL ON THE TRAILER (BEFORE PUTTING IT IN WATER):

--Make sure the drianplugs are in tight (they're located at the back of the hull)

-- attach the fob, lanyard, or whatever your ski uses for a key

    --Pull the choke switch out.

--Press the starter button and lightly feather the throttle lever (on the righthand grip) as the engine turns over.

--Once the engine fires up, push the choke back in.

    --Shut the engine off.

NOW THAT YOU KNOW THE ENGINE WILL START, GO AHEAD AND PUT IT IN THE WATER.

Do everything as listed above (nimus the shutdown of course), but remember to attach the clip end of the key lanyard to your life vest.  That way the engine will shut down if you fall off the ski.

  2. make sure that when you do start the ski, that you are not in shallow waters, or rocks and seaweed will get sucked up and could possibly ruin your engine and prop. push it out a little bit or have someone push you out. then turn the bad boy on and fly away!

  3. not to be too cruel but RTFM
