  2. As Bree said, most areas can't take a new station and if it can, Are you willing to possibly wait 10 years for a station?

See you have to petition the FCC for a open frequency and wait on them... I've seen applications take almost 10 years to run thru the FCC...

But you won't have to worry about Transmitters until you have the Capital to back it up.... Them transmitters are a hundred Thousand (for the actual transmitter, matching and amplifier unit.. h**l the tube is $7,000 on some) ..coax is another almost $50,000 cost and the antenna is another $10k for a basic setup if I remember antenna system.

Study up on it first on the radio station you want?.... Do you want a Class A or Class B station in the Northeast or Midwest... or a class A or C station in the rest of the US... (those were all kind of commercial grades.. I haven't even talked about LPFM and Class D stations)

It's almost easier to buy a radio station.. but in most markets (say for a city of 500,000 people) most stations in my area sold for $4 million each!!!!!!

It's almost easier to buy a AM station and move it. those can be had for $100,000 these days

But Until you know more, there is too much information out there to help you..once you narrow the search, then we can help you

  3. unless you are in the middle of nowhere - forget it.  everyone already thought about it and thus the frequencies are all used up.  if you are in the middle of nowhere - then don't bother with a license and just buy a transmitter and antenna from ramsey electronics or bsw and go for it.  for some real fun, and less chances of anyone being concerned about it - go on the AM band!

i will add that it is possible that the LP - 10 window may come if Hillary (seems likely huh) or actually any DEM wins the Whitehouse.  B/c then the FCC will shift - and low power stations may get the nod again.  in which case, you might be able to get a 10 watter, but you still would likely need community support of soem type.
