  1. first... pick a viable alternative...

    Then study it.

Relative cost... the most important factor when trying to get people to change fuel.

  2. Start with this analogy:

"Have you ever pushed a car that ran out of gas, 15 feet off the road?  It isn't easy.  What if you had to push 100 cars 15 feet?  Would you be tired?  How about 1000 cars?  Could you do it in a day?  How much would you pay someone to do this job for you?

How long would it take to push 10,000 cars 15 feet?  Two weeks?  A month?  Could you even do it?  How much would you pay someone to do this job for you?

Lots of people answer a thousand dollars or more.  Do you know what the job is really worth?

    How about three dollars.

There are about 150,000 feet in 30 miles and an average new car gets about 30 miles per gallon.

And we can buy that gallon for only three dollars."

Once we all understand what energy like gasoline really does for us, we realize how hard it is to replace it.  We all want the replacement to have the portability, ease of use and offer the energy content of gasoline, yet we don't want it to be more expensive.

Here lies the problem.  Where if gasoline was always $25 a gallon, we wouldn't have a problem replacing gas cars with electrics, or ethanol or any other alternative.   If the actual cost of gasoline was closer to it value to us, things would be easier to solve.  What is the real cost of a gallon of gasoline worth?

Remember the people who were willing to pay a thousand dollars?   Why are we complaining about three or four?  I got some news folks, because of falling supply and increasing demand, over the next few years, gas is going higher and higher and higher!

Even in Europe, where gasoline is almost $10 a gallon, it is still too cheap to have any real competition yet.

Also, instead of asking questions like:

    Why is gasoline so expensive?

Why hasn't anyone come up with alternatives yet?

We should be asking questions like:

My groceries and I together weigh less than 300 lbs.

Why do I need a 6,000 lb. vehicle to drive us home?

The immediate alternative for everyone is conservation.  Learn how to double your fuel economy, and don't drive to as many places you don't really need to drive.  And by God, if anyone you know still drives an SUV, tell them to get rid of that thing!

This video will teach everyone how to double your fuel economy.

    Good luck with your speech!

I'd like to see what you come up with.

Videotape it and post it on youtube and give us the link

  3. First you have to start by telling the disadvantages of fossil fuels. first u start with the disadvantages then you discuss the alternatives and their disadvantages then you conclude by discussing and stressing out your important points.
