How to start homeschooling?

i'm interesting in having my kid homeschooled, because i don't like the public school system. i considered online schooling, but i'd rather have them do curriculum based on what we think is better for them. is it still possible for me to have them homeschooled if i am working full time? (i usually get off around 4 and get home a little after 5) in my situation, what types of home-schooling can i work with? what about unschooling? and where do i get the curriculum? (HS)

to go further into my sit. i live in california, what would i need to homeschool my kid? what do i need to do? isn't there a law or something that i have to be a cred. teacher or something? because i'm not, but i still want them homeschooled. can i still homeschool them (technically, not me :) let them do the work at home while i'm working, but still have them meet with a cred. teacher/tutor, would that count? or do i really even need a tutor? because i'd rather do everything at home. and what things do i file for , because i know its legal i just have to let the gov. know or something??

  1. Hello- I am about to start homeschooling my 3 kids- ages 11-12 and 13- for many reasons... and have done about a years worth of research on the subject.  I don't think that anyone is ever 100 percent sure that any decision that they make pertaining to their children is 100 percent correct!  You should look into the Robinson Curriculum (Google it).  It is a self- teaching program and it might work perfectly for your child.  They were going to pass a law in CA. about having to get cert. if you were going to homeschool- but that law has been rejected; however, I would double check on exactly what the requirements are.  In New Jersey- where I live- you just have to tell the school that you are going to homeschool and that's that.  You should also join the HSLDA- the Homeschool Legal Defense Assoc.  It is about $100.00 a year and they will help you if any legal issues arise free of charge.  Join a homeschooling support group and ask questions... you would be surprised at how many people are willing to help- even offer phone support.  Hope that helped a bit...

  2. I am an Arabic guy however

I think you should let you kid in school

    he should socialize

And dont commit a big mistake

when in future he will face troubles and cant pass it

its cuz of your wrong decision

    Life is experience

if you let  him away from people he will grow up lonely

and will suffer and people will make fun of him in future

Why are you aware of schools system?

Nothing to be worry about just let him/her live with others and thats all

  4. Heritage Homeschooling works great! they also have it in christian if thats your religion.

  5. CA has gone through a bit of a confusing time recently but it's pretty much been cleared up and NO you don't have to be a certified teacher or anything. Check the HSLDA link below for all the legal details.

I answered your other question about being at home but no you don't need a tutor, as long as you're happy with your daughter being at home by herself from a safety POV or you can arrange for her to be with someone.

There are lots of on-line schools or she can just take specific courses that you feel are necessary or which she's interested in. It's largely a matter of deciding what her goals are. Does she have any sort of career in mind, if so what skills and qualifications will she need? If she wants to go to college then there are targets to aim for. If she doesn't know yet then she could just follow her interests and maybe they'll lead in to something.
