My partner wishes to adopt my son (from previous relationship which broke down before he was born) and we have no idea where to start...any advise please?

Also if anyone has been though it - we have heard it's alot harder for unmarried couples - any idea's also how long it takes?

Thanks in advance

  1. The father of your son would have to agree to give the child to another man.

  2. I think your best bet would be to contact social services, they should be able to point you in the right direction.

  3. What gives you the right to speak for this childs Dad? Maybe he doesn't want his child adopted.

  4. i think you have to either contact the social services or your local council may be able to point you in the right direction. My husband and i looked into the same thing a number of years ago and the thing i do remember being told is that you BOTH have to adopt him even though you are his biological mother. Yes strange i know but that is what we were told

  5. I woula find an adoption agency in your area, and call them and ask for more info.

  6. Is your partner male or female?

  7. I would start with an adoption attorney.  Your son's biological father will probably need to sign away parental rights first.  But it would be best to talk to an expert in the field.

    Good luck!
