  1. Oh god here we go.

I have seen a lot of people riding bikes recently.

  2. Before you go anywhere near a track you need to be an accomplished cyclist.

  3. Start with regular cycling.  By the time you're ready for the track, you'll know the answers to the questions you're asking, and have several bikes in your stable.

  4. You need to go to a velodrome and join their cycling club and you don't need to be an accomplished cyclist as all levels of proficiency are welcome and they have races for beginners to get a feel of what track cycling entails. They usually only charge a nominal fee for membership. A specialised track cycling bike costs thousands but you don't need that to start off with and the club will probably have bikes that beginners can use. They use fixed wheels which takes a bit of getting used to.  My local velodrome here in Edinburgh produced a cyclist called Chris Hoy- you might have heard of him. He started off riding BMX.
