Question:

How to stay pain free in Road Biking?

To improve Road Biking performance, one day I practice Sprint on the Track Running and next day I practice Road Bike Cadence for over 2 hours. However, I go through lots of muscles pain in my leg especially in front and back thigh and hamstring area. It takes 3-4 days or even more sometimes to recover.

How to stay pain free? Well, I am at my 40! But don’t want age to take over my body.

  1. Is your bike adjusted correctly?  Seat?  Handlebars, etc. Is the bike the right size for you?  my suggestion is go to a local bike shop with your bike and get sized.

  2. Make sure you are properly stretching right before you ride. Also add a little more protein to your diet.

  3. If there's pain, you maybe over doing it.Not everyone ages in the same manner. Try doing a little less.

Sorry, the Grim Reaper never loses. Never.

  4. retire

    maybe you are to old

  5. I'm 42 and I never have any pain in my legs even if I cycle 60 miles but the key thing is, because I don't own a car I cycle every single day. I think that is the reason- I just don't allow my muscles to get out of condition although I do alternate the distances I cycle so that I don't overdo the exertion. I don't do long distance slogs on successive days. When you reach 40 though you do have to become aware of the fact that you just can't push your body to the same limits as you could when you were younger.

  6. I'm not sure how much of an expert you are at road biking, but it could be something as simple as bike setup.  This is so much more important at an older age!  If it is setup it would be your seat placement.  Too far back and you could be unconsiously reaching for the pedals.  If the seat is too high it's EASY to strain your legs.  Get a good book on Road Bike Setup or hit your local shop.

OR go get a one-time personal trainer to teach you good stretching... specific to your activities.

  7. This happens to every one over 40, what now takes me 3~4 days to fully recover from my son recovers in 1 day. What you can do to help is a one day break between running and biking. An other is a good easy pace after your ride, an easy spin the next day helps and don't forget to refuel with-in 60 min after a hard workout.

  8. i am 14 i can ride 108 miles with out any pain you just have to get used to it.

  9. the young punk has about the best answer, just ride more.   It may make you tougher.
