  1. Don't mess with needles. Especially a whopper like a 14 ga.  First, once you disfigure yourself with an infection, there is no going back. Second, eventually you will hopefully get older and wiser, and have kids who want a butterfly tattooed on their nose. Will you be a good example? Finally, I personally do not hire people in my office with visible tattoos, piercings, etc.  I want my staff to look NORMAL. Body "decorations" may be something you will regret when it comes to getting a job or advancing to Management. Think twice before you commit.

  2. Boil tthe needle in hot water for five minutes.

  3. You have no right to wield a needle if you don't understand the basics of sterile technique or sterilization. You are doing nobody any favors and are putting them at risk for a variety of infectious diseases, like hepatitis, AIDS, bacterial infections, etc.

Most modern needles are single use only. They come pre-packaged, and sterile (using radiation or gas to sterilize them). They are meant to be disposed of after ONE use. The edge of the needle becomes dull with repeated use as well.

Alcohol is not effective against some organisms.

  4. All reptutable tattoo/piercing boutiques use single use sterile needles, and all reuseable equipment is autoclaved and individually packaged in sterile material.

  5. I think rubbing alcohol or heating it.  But if you don't even know how to steralize it, I don't think you should be piercing!!
