Should the bottle be dropped in the boiling water on the stove or wash the bottle with the boiled water off the stove ?Am worried about rubber/plastics that would melt on heat. Also, isn't safe to sterilize bottles with water out of tap ?

thanks,

Novice new mom..

  1. You can just use dish soap, water, and a bottle brush...or you could wash them first and then drop them into boiling water on the stove...there really isn't a way to clean them with boiling water if taken off the stove due to you burning yourself, and plus it really defeats the purpose of sterilizing it. It won't melt the nipples either cause I use to do this with my daughters' bottles. Just get a bog pot of water get it to a boil and then drop the bottles and nipples in for about 5-10 mins.

Handy piece of information...tap water is actually great for children seeing as the floride in the water strengthens their teeth and gives their teeth what they need...there honestly is no harm in using tap water to wash bottles or to make bottles with.

  2. oh - love colton's mommy's idea about the sterilizer bags for the microwave. boiling water just made me too nervous and it took too long...the bags are great because you just put a small amount of water in and microwave for a short time. it's quicker, easier, and safer - just be sure to open it carefully because there is a lot of steam! i found the bags at target near the breast pumps...i haven't seen them anywhere else!

  3. usually the melting point of rubber and plastics are realllyyy high, so i wouldnt worry too much about that..i usually wash the bottle with soap and water then boil them in tap water...you should be fine ...if you find residue on your npples and bottkes you can use brita or purified water to boil them.

  4. First you wash the bottles in hot soapy water... rinse well.

Place the bottles and nipples and lids into the boiling pot of water for 10 minutes, let the water boil hard for 10 minutes.  Pour off the water or remove all the pieces using tongs.  Place on a clean towel or paper towels to air dry.

  5. I have never sterilized either of my sons bottles except for the first time.  His ped says that you don't need to, unless you have a premie or something.  I just use hot water and soap

Check out this website saying you don't have to sterilize

  6. I washed my bottles in regular dishsoap, then put tap water in a large saucepan/dutchoven. When the water came to a boil, I dropped the bottles, rings, nipples, lids in. Careful so the water doesn't splash out at you! The bottles usually come with guides as to how long to boil them, but if yours didn't, about 3 minutes will do it. Good luck!!

  7. I always wash my sons bottles with a bottle cleaner and dish soap.he has never gotten sick.

  8. Hi! Congrats!

I always put the bottles in a large pot with water and brought it to a boil that way. The bottles need to be in the boiling water for a certain amount of time ( can't remember if it's one full minute or five) but you only have to sterilize them before their first use. After that, you can simply wash them with hot, soapy water. Stir the water frequently to prevent the plastic from sticking to the bottom and melting.

    Good luck!

  9. only boil the nipples for five minutes and then remove and let cool. Only sterilize one time before first use. Then wash all parts in dishwasher. Be careful to put all pieces on top shelf of dishwasher, but you can put nipples in silverware holder or you can soak them and wash by hand.

  10. wash with soap and water then rinse, put back in sink and pour boiling water over them, until the water cools or you can buy a sterilizer for the microwave
