  1. Hi! if what you mean is: How to create a rock garden over a lawn of grass, here is how you do it:

First, either rent a sod remover to get rid of the grass and roll up, or remove by hand, or use round up to kill the lawn Let the dirt dry out for a couple days if this is in summer

Now think about what type of garden you want. Do you want a mountain rock garden, a dessert rock garden, or just a large rock garden with little or no plants?

A-for a mountain rock garden, mix some light material such as sphagnum moss and compost. make a bed and line with large rocks. throw some large rocks here and there in the middle, and those will provide shady spots for those plants that dont like as much sun. then plant mountain plants that you like, such as poppies or maybe sedum!

B-if you are going for a Dessert garden, just add lots of sand and small to medium pebbles to the top of your native soil. then plant cactuses or cacti that you like in there, and decorate with rocks that you like.

C-if you want just a plain rock garden, you just throw rocks you like on top, and perhaps lay down landscaping material under them to prevent weeds. If you want some plants, you can plant cactuses or cacti in the crevices, and even keep them in their pots, and hide the pots with stones!

I would prefer A or B, but I hope this information helps!

Good luck with your stone garden :)
