I need some help in stopping ammonium nitrate from absorbing water, is there something I could mix it with like oil to stop it from taking up moisture? A bit of moisture doesn't matter though thanks people for your help in advance. Best answer is the first one that works the best and NO I am not trying to make ANFO or any other high explosives I am just at an impasse on how to nullify it's hygroscopic properties. (I think thats how you spell it).

  1. O..oo..oo...is it ammonia Nitrate try heating it

  2. Put the ammonia nitrate in plastic bags. Before you seal them put a piece of cloth drenched in glycerol on it. Glycerol is also hydroscopic and will take the humidity already absorbed and the humidity coming in in the future.

  3. Whenever I've needed to keep anything dry, I've stored it in a dessicator with some calcium chloride in the bottom.
