  1. :-( the vets have something they use, maybe ask them, we get the vets to cut our dogs nails as they are black so you cant see the quick

  2. Corn starch if you don't have a styptic.

edit: Start playing with and handling the dogs feet. They will get less apprhensive when it comes to having the nails done. Many pet owners have better luck using a Dremel type file instead of clippers on the nails too.

  3. The same thing happened with my dog. we just took her to the vet and then they gave her a little wrap to go around her paw. It came off in 2 days and the nail was fine. Poor doggy! Best wishes for both of you.

  4. when i was young we use to put vaselineto clotthe bleeding.but since then i have been using cornstarch to bind the cut.

  5. stick the nail in corn starch, that will stop the bleeding. Its always helpful to keep that on hand incase you cut too short.

Your best bet is to get the dog active and wear them out, I mean so bad that they just want to lie down and go to sleep. That is always the best time (atleast for mine) they are too tired to really put up a fight with you.

  6. I found this site, it shows you how to stop it:

    Hope I helped!

  7. next time at your check up have your vet cut your dog's nail and have him/her show you how to do it because cutting the quick hurts the dog and even though you stopped the bleeding the dog has to walk around and then they feel the pain

  8. Flour, cornstarch or just apply pressure. If you plan to continue cutting the nails yourself, you can purchase some styptic powder from any pet store. To minimize cutting the quicks, you should always have someone hold the dog for you and just clip the tips of the nail, you can "grind" the nail down a bit more to make them shorter and smoother by using a dremmel tool (hardware store or now they make them especially for pets). Always make nail trimmings a positive experience, yelling and such will aide no improvement on the dogs behavior. Good luck!
