Question:

How to stop a friend?

My friend takes a bottle of water out with her, every time we go out; that's not the problem, but she insists on drinking from it whilst we're in a restaurant. How can I stop her from doing this, besides asking her which does not work ("They're already overcharging us for this; I'm not going to buy a drink as well")?

  1. she's doing it for attention, just ignore her

  2. One does not take their own beverage into a restaurant.  It's just that simple.

Water is served at the table and is not charged for.  Tap water is just fine.  If she persists, stop going to restaurants with her.  She evidently is unaware that she appears to be trailer trash.

In addition, whining about being 'over charged' is yet another reason why you need to find another dinner companion.

  3. You can get tap water with free refills, you're only charged for mineral water.

If she dislikes resteraunts that much, why does she go?

  4. Most restaurants dont charge for water...Tell her to get some class, thats just weird as h**l.

  5. tell her to stop wasting all the plastic. show her some facts on how wasteful water bottles are.

  6. isn't water free anyway.  Wouldn't she like a nice cold glass of water with her meal instead of the hot water she has been carrying around all day.

  7. control freak alert!! she can do what she wants, sounds like she's a smart cookie who doesnt want to waste money pointlessly!!

Do you think the waitor actually cares? he's probably watching the clock, waiting to go home. wondering what to have for dinner.

  8. Hmm. I take a water bottle in my purse/bag with me when I go out places. (I have a washable, reusable bottle so I'm not creating any waste, before people start to harp on me here). But I don't think I would take it out at a restaurant and start drinking from it...I would just get a glass of water with my meal.

All you can tell her is that you think it is rude, but you can't really push your opinions on people.

  9. Stop meeting her for mealtimes. Just not do it.

When she finally asks, tell her the truth.

she'll either get it - or she won't.

  10. Why is she your friend?

  11. There should be no way you should be stopping her but the management of the restaurants should.  It is a known fact you cannot eat your own food or drink your own refreshment in a restaurant that has not been brought from there.  Even very low class places have this rule and because of people like your friend they sometimes put notices up bringing to the customers attention. She is being extremely unmannerly doing this, you have asked her and she still does this.  Time for 'no more Mr Nice guy' simply do not dine with her !!!
