Question:

How to stop a frig from rolling forward when opening?

I have just purchased a new Frigidaire side by side refrigerator. I have tile floors and when I go to open the frig it rolls forward on me.

Is there something I can put in front of the wheels to prevent this but at the same time be easy to remove encase I have to roll the frig forward to get back there?

Any suggestions?

  1. those little wood splints i think thats what there called

  2. That is not an uncommon with a new refrigerator on a tile or wood floor as they roll easily.

I have found a very small piece of carpet with a rubber backing put under the front wheels works great.

But that raises the front a little so if it tilts it back too much much by raising the front you can lower the front wheels by backing out the adjustment screws.

Depending on the space it is in, sometimes a small block of wood under the frame on the side will do it too. But again you have to take care not to change the level or will need to readjust it and you will need to pull the wood out when ever you go to pull out the refrigerator.

    Good Luck.

  3. I think the problem is just new wheels on a new refrigerator and a hard surface like tile. It just makes it very easy to move the refrigerator. It is also possible that if the refrigerator isn't full, the lighter weight adds to the problem.

You could purchase a couple of rubber caster cups that go under furniture legs to protect carpet and wood floors. They are available in clear soft material which won't allow the wheels to move and won't be real noticeable. You will need someone to tip the refrigerator back to place and remove them however.

  4. the problem is due to the weight of the doors as they open.  Buy a case of beer and put it in the fridge(not on the door).  that will keep the weight distributed better, remember to replenish as you drink...

The front wheels probably rotate, turn them sideways so they don't roll forward.  The idea of getting a rubber gasket and wedging it between the wheels and floor will help too.

  5. Its not standing on a level plane, u should have adjustable k***s on the bottom 4 corners, raise or lower them to level the unit off...if not the old fashion way wood 2x2s and level the unit off

  6. There are bolts that can be turned in or out on the bottom front and the bottom back brackets to offset the way it sits.

A good many times they are on one set of wheels.

You will also find a lever on the wheels that lock them.

  7. Your problem is weight versus gravity. Raise the level

in the front of the fridge by a few turns per wheel. If

this doesn't work. Go to an auto parts store and buy

some rubber gasket material. Cut blocks that will

fit under the wheels in the front, this will allow the

wheels to grip the floor and not roll forward.
