  2. the gum is its blood. If it is coming out, there may be bugs attacking the tree and making little holes. Kill the bugs if you can, and refrain from poking holes in the tree. Any gum that seeps out of cracks in the bark will dry and harden on its own, and stop the flow of further gum-- just like when you bleed and a scab forms.
