Question:

How to stop eating meat?

I got a first hand look at one of the big chicken farms a couple months ago.

It was the most disturbing thing I've ever experienced.

I never knew this is where chicken comes from and I never knew people could legally treat animals like that.

I did a bunch of research after going there and found out that the pigs and cows are also treated like that.

It was enough for me to decide to stop eating meat completely.

But I'm having trouble stopping.

I don't have very good will power and a few times I've ended up blocking out what I know just so that I could eat a bit of a big mac or some beef jerky.

I really do want to stop though.

I could really use some tips from some people who have gone through this.

Thanks

  1. You should continue to eat meat.

  2. i had that same problem...but i have been trying all different vegetairan meats, and they are not that bad...my fav burgers are from the boca meat, and fav hotdogs bratwurst, chicken nuggets are from morning star....and there compellty meat free, and i still get that yummy satisfaction that i enjoyed when i was a child you know....also portebello mushrrom cheeseburger is sooooooo good...it really helped me replace beef.good luck!!!

  3. start with organic only, then try to maybe buy local meat from a nice place (do some research)...but dont resist the temptation to eat meat! another idea is to put some pictures of cute cows and pigs in ur walet ir in ur car and around the house to remind u that u r eating these cute little fellas :p

  4. Alright i had the same problem. but you have to really be commited. after i saw this kind of stuff it scared me, so whenever i was thinking about meat you think of what the animal went threw for it, like think of the chickens spleen or something or how you think it was made. and you'll not want to eat it. or try to make yourself sad. they work but you have to have will power

  5. I have been vegetarian for a long time.  I have never liked meat very much.  Why you find youself wanting meat, just think very hard about where it comes from and what you saw.

  6. Visit a "packing plant" (slaughterhouse). If you can eat meat after that, you're one scary individual.

  7. Your best bet is to stock up on the amazing meat substitutes out there. You can get the taste of meat nowadays without eating meat. It's amazing (e.g., chick patties and tofu sausage for starters)

  8. Just find foods that you enjoy- it's not about deprivation. There are many good vegetarian alternatives. Nothing beats a good salad, and fresh fruits. Rice, nuts, pasta, meatless burgers.

  9. get used to eating stuff without meat, cheese pizza, leave the meat off sandiches. Everytime you want to eat a burger think of killing an inocent cow then cut out some of its hip grind it up and fry it. MMM... cow.

Then when you want a peice of chicken imagine a cute feathery chicken, go up to it chop of its head then rip off a leg and cook it up season with salt and pepper if desired.

Now for some bacon, take a potato peeler to some smart little pigs back and slice off some tasty bacon. If the screaming pig bothers you shoot it in the head.

It gets easier the more you just dont eat meat, for awhile you are going to accidently get meat fat in your food because you are not used to looking for it, dont be discouraged if you slip just hop back on. Ignore ones trying to get you to continue to be a carnivore they are addicted like crackheads.

Hope I rung a bell with you this was how I did it and it worked.

  10. okay, i know how you feel, I'm a vegan.

yes meat is tempting but what i find helps me is to try the different types of soy products available in places like Whole Foods or health food stores. It sounds gross, but these new soy-based products really do taste like meat and they get rid of the urge i feel for meat. It would also be helpful if you knew someone who could sympathize with you, a veggie friend or someone you could call in that moment of weakness so they can remind you why you stopped eating meat. Surprisingly the desire will fade with time.

    Good luck!!

  11. I think you should continue eating meat God created the world for a reson animals are made to eat other animals smaller then them and people are supposed to eat animals.

Remember your having pity on animals that capture and eat other animals lets eat meat and stick up for those small animals and the small fish that are captured and killed by larger and stronger animals

  12. go vegetarian , in the long run it really suppresses your desire to have any kind of meat, this really works, try it.

  13. This is how it always was for me before I fully became a vegetarian. I was ignorant to the truth. I knew how they were being treated and I chose to ignore it.

Then, all of my friends were becoming vegetarians. They had watched a video, veg-tv.info/earthlings and it made them want to become vegetarian. So I watched it, too. And sure enough, I couldn't even look at meat afterwards.

Now I am a proud vegetarian. And am thinking of becoming a vegan, but I am a runner so im conserned my nutritional needs.

Anyways. It's a personal choice. I decided not to be ignorant of what was happening. But, if you feel OK eating it knowing what happend, than just eat it. It's a personal decision and you need to base it off of your mental and physical needs.

  14. I am sure you will get posts from vegetarians and vegans.

I am not one. However I would suggest if you are going

the non meat routine to do some research and make sure you are getting a nutritionally balanced diet. A lot of people who give up meat use cheese as a substitute and it is

a good substitute in moderation. It has a very high fat content

and can add pounds to your weight before you know it.

You need good sources of protein like beans, lentils, legumes and tofu to make up for the meat products you are not eating.

  15. Congrats!...I stopped eating meat 2 1/2 yrs ago...and now I'm even vegan..I will say..that for me it took about 8 mo. for me to never want it again..and for quite some time now I haven't even thought of it as food..I don't even really remember what it tastes like...cheese was way harder....anyways know that it def. will get easier... for me the hardest time was when I was really hungry and I smelled it...so I would try to make sure that I never got so hungry that I would give in just becuz I didn't have enough will power when I was so hungry....also I hate being addicted to anything..it annoys me that just because of the taste of something it's hard for me to say no to it...so that helped me too..but the biggest thing is to keep learning about why meat isn't good for you..it's obviously bad for the animals..but also try to look into the health benifits of not eating meat..and the research behind why we are not truly made to eat meat...when you look into it you will see how eating animal products are bad for our health...I think it's great to realize that by not consuming animal products that you are helping animals, your own health, the planet, and even other people...becuz the factory farms are extremely dangerous to work in..and people are injured a lot.....

Good luck..find alternatives if you need to like fake meats..but really just open your mind to the fact that we are force fed the idea that we "need" to eat meat..and realize there are tons of things to eat instead of meat..just eat more veggies and fruits that you have never tried b4..realize that you can get plenty of protein from fruits and veggies and beans and nuts..and actually Hemp seeds and hemp oil is some of the most complete protein on the planet...so congrats for thinking for yourself and not what the meat and dairy industries force on us.....Good Luck

  16. i just stopped too... but my mom uest to cook spagetti and she put allllllllllooot of meat in it so now i cook spagetti without the meat and it tastes the same to me so cook foods that you remember having alot of meats in without them m and it will tast the same!!!!!!!! thats how i dont miss it.. think about the animals more and the diseases

  17. i have the same problem

except i gave up eating meat about 2 years ago.

i went to a farm and saw how they trat animals and this grossed me out. pictures and all!

at first, it was hard not to eat meat, but i just thought of the horrific things i had seen and what part of the animal this was.Everytime i see meat i just try my hardest not to eat it:)

good luckk;; your doing the right thing

  18. Find some veg restaurants you can try - that is fun and interesting to try new things

then buy cook books such as Vegan viddles a the new farm cookbook these are staple cook books they have meat substitutes and nut cheeses.  You can google recipes for tofu and seitan for some quick recipes.  Boca burgers replace burgers.  so on and so on...

there are replacements for everything or almost everything

google to look at the vegetarian mail order catalog too you can purchase nearly anything from them
