Question:

How to stop getting colds?

My daughter started nursery a few weeks ago and, as is typical with her situation, is picking up cold germs left, right and centre. For the last few weeks she and I have been getting a cold nearly every fortnight. What is the best thing (herbal remedy, vitamin etc) that can ward off these germs?

My daughter's diet is incredibly healthy...she eats plenty of protein, fruits, vegetables etc and also has nearly a pint of follow on formula milk a day so I don't know what else to add to it to stop these pesky colds.

I also take multivitamins and tried Echinacea as a supplement but I ended up getting colds anyway. Have also tried Vick's 1st defence. Need something that will stop these germs dead in their tracks.

  1. there is no cure or vaccine to stop a cold. Wash your hands and keep your immune system healthy and you will get fewer colds that dont last as long. Cold medicine may make you feel better, but they can prolong the cold since things such as fever and runny nose are how your body fights off the virus.

  2. Try these - http://www.all-ages-vitamins.co.uk/large... - along with a reliable Vitamin C tablet - http://www.hollandandbarrett.com/pages/p... - you can't go wrong - I use these & haven't had a cold in ages.

  3. You could always try vit C to prevent and also, airborne is a good source.

  4. ok im in school and i constantly had a cold and i couldnt get rid of it. then my mom heard of this drink called airborn it was created by an elementary school teacher who was tired of getting sick. it helped me alot. so maybe you should try it. hope it helps.

  5. tea and lemon..with honey [not sugar]. night quill and sleep. maybe some chicken soup. =]

  6. a hermeticaly sealed chamber, sterilized several times a day, to remove even the slightest germ.

  7. The average child is going to get 7 viral respiratory illnesses a year, that is one every 7 weeks. There is nothing you can do do prevent or reduce this, nor should you be trying to do so! You are I am afraid doing your child no good at all by dosing her up with things that are not only useless, but will end up making her hypochondriacal. Projecting your own fears on to your child and trying to  stop her growing up in the same normal way as every other child is not psychologically healthy for you or your child!

On no account feed her vitamin supplements there is no evidence that they are useful and some recent, though not clearly understood work, suggesting that those who took vitamin supplements do not live as long as those who don't!

Researchers at Copenhagen University carried out a review of 67 studies on 230,000 healthy people and found "no convincing evidence" that any of the antioxidants helped to prolong life expectancy. But some "increased mortality".
