  1. Flex your fingers frequently. That will keep the blood running through them, which will help to warm them up.  if you have a constant hard grip on your poles, you are actually discouraging good circulation.

  2. There are some good glove liners which will defintiely help. I recommend you purchase them at a quality ski shop or camping store. I have used them before and they are very effective. Keep in mind the gloves need to be high quality as well,

    Hope this helps.

  3. I had the same issue. I finally got some Mitts-OR Lattitude mitts. i found some warm fleece mitt liners and now have toasty hands (ive been warm even down to -10F)

  4. I might suggest that you try glove liners (fleece is good), and then mitts over that. Usually you can buy a high quality set (comes with mitts and liners together) at any outdoors type of store (REI, Recreation Outlet, Cabellas, etc).

The mitts really retain the heat, while the gloves provide dexterity if you take the mitts off on the chair to get food or whatever.

On really cold days, that doesn't even do it, so I resort to slapping my hands on my thighs, swinging arms in circles, etc.

Don't be offended, but remember, you are choosing to partake in an outdoor, winter activity. You need to expect to be cold. Do what you can to stay warm, but you can't complain...skiing is the greatest sport on Earth.

If you have poor blood circulation, that could lead to cold extremities as well. Look up methods of improving blood circulation. Most involve exercise, and good health habits such as diet and no smoking, etc.

  5. Yeah, getting mittens is the best thing you can do.  In gloves, each finger produces a little heat, and then it is lost quickly do to exposed surface area even in the best glove material.  The heat is shared in mittens and you can even put the warmers up near your fingers.

  6. I had similar problems and found some answers that mostly work.

    1) Gotta keep dry! Hands sweat a lot and moisture conducts heat fast. Use a liner glove like thin Smartwool (works best) or thin silk gloves (www.sportsmansguide,com) to wick moisture away.

    2) On top of the liners mittens are much better than gloves. Most work pretty well, but if waterproof, they get clammy. Cloth type lets the water out, but also get wet. I just got some for this year that are goretex (breathable) and have lots of insulation (not down, which when wet does not insulate) and they are pretty good, but Goretex does not really breath enough for hhigh perspiration like xc skiing that I do.

  7. i have a really nice pair of dakine mittens and they have really warm liners in them. on the chair lift i always make fists inside my mittens so my fingertips stay warm. my hands always seems to get overly hot rather than cold now that i have mittens. its wierd.
