How to stop or avoid a takedown in a fight?

I'm a very good boxer I guess, but for some reason I do not know how to avoid takedowns. When a wrestler goes for my legs, I just freeze up and he takes me down. I guess i'm not good with my legs. Eventually I end up getting back up but still, I don't want to be on the ground at all. What are some techniques or tips to stop or avoid a take down?

  1. The way Sugar Ray Robinson stopped Gene Lebell, was by firing jabs.  Of course, Sugar Ray Robinson had hands like rockets.  In fact in MMA circles that is generally how take downs are stopped, the first line of defense is almost always a jab, with the sprawl being the second line.  Yeah its true that a grappler will take a hit or two if it means getting your legs, thing is, you set it up with enough jabs you can follow it up with a hook or a cross if you're fast enough.

The first line of defense, you're jabs or "the old one two" as they call it.  Second line is sprawling, but you can't just sprawl.  From a sprawl you have to have a counter offensive leading to a submission.  Generally though sprawls are dangerous, as from there you can apply a choke hold.  Dangerous to the person attempting the tackle that is....

    Hope that helps.

  2. Sprawling.

  3. you gotta sprawl when you see a takedown comming. lean forward on the guy to the point where you would fall down if you weren't leaning on him, and shoot your legs backs.
