Question:

How to stop parakeet fighting?

Well, just yesterday I got a new male parakeet. He's probably only a few months old. I put him in the cage with my old parakeet (which I've had for about a year) and she starts fights with him sometimes. He is afraid to eat or play with her toys because he knows he might get pecked. I have 2 weeks to take him back. Should I return him and just leave her in a cage by herself or do you think the fighting will eventually stop? They don't fight constantly or very viciously but they do fight. Will they warm up to each other or will it always be like this?

  1. it might be a good idea to seperate them and have two cages. thats what we had to do with my parakeets. you can keep the cages next to each other though so they do have friends. hope all goes well!

  2. Never put in a young parakeet with a older one, they'll fight and she could possibly hurt him. Have him in a seperate cage next to the cage she is in. Then later on they may talk to each other through the cages. Once they seem to get along you may put him in the cage with her (probably around a few months or more) yeah...seperate the two. Even when he gets as old as her they'll still fight, females always seem to be the dominate one in the cage. Females boss the males around when the males try to get their attention and the female isen't in the mood.  My lutino parakeet (younger than my other parakeets) is the dominate one in the cage, she bosses around my older females o_o

  3. im not sure but u should go to the pet store and ask if it is ok to keep them together and ask if they will get along. if they don't u can get another cage for the male or return ur male bird its ur choice

  4. you have to seperate them

then later they probably might get along with each other

  5. u have to seperate them hun before she hurts him.. once he gets older thEN u can put them together again. my female parakeet is like that too, but their the same AGE and he finally got sick of her always picking on him so he fights back too. but when its time to eat she always has to be first or the first to take a treat. yeah ur parakeet is too young to be in the same cage with her so if u dont have th patience and the money to purchase another cage i suggest u return it.

    GOOD LUCK HUN!
