for years now i have had small ticks but they are very annoying. for instance i will blink one of my eyes or widen them. lately ive been having to stretch my fingers apart and move my neck as if im trying to crack it. if i dont do this things its all i think about until i do it again and i feel a lot of anxiety. i was just wondering how i could stop this without going to the doctor. i dont have money for that right now so is there any tips on how to stop this annoying habit. thanks so much.

  1. Well these ticks have two causes, one is uncontrollable the nerves causing twitching without your control it just happens.

The second cause which sounds more like what you have is related to compulsive disorder, it deals with anxiety and the need to do something or things repeatedly to feel ok, when these things are not done or done the wrong way or wrong number of times it can stay on our minds.

I will give you three ways of dealing with these, if it is the first cause you can see a doctor dealing with your nerves or nervous system.

If the second you could see a psychiatrist or therapist/counselor to deal with the root of the anxiety.

Another option for you which will help with either cause but more so if anxiety is the cause of these TICKS or compulsive actions is to deal with the causes of and the way you process anxieties in your life. This does take time and effort but not money and it can be most effective.

There are factors from your life which can play a role, job, money traumas from the past and worries etc. there are also physiological factors like hormone levels in your body/brain and others.

There are certain practices which involve breath, and body awareness which can help with these. I do not want to leave a super long message for you, but I do teach this stuff for a living and would be happy to give you more details of what you can do, you can e-mail me if you are interested, if not I want to leave you with this thought.

This tick and the anxiety associated with it is not a singular thing by this I mean it comes from things you need to deal with or at least become consciously aware of... if you become aware of those things you can break out of the pattern/habit you are in

  2. You can't cope with this alone.

If you feel this is  an anxiety problem and you can not afford a Doctor,

see if there is a local county mental health program available.

Or, if you are in an urban area see if a teaching hospital can help you.

The impotent thing here is to start to seek help for your problem. Try to get attention from a medical doctor to rule out any physical causes.
