  1. I am like you, I pick up some accents quite easily but I don't mean to. You are really sub conscious trying to fit in and going along with the flow, it is also a habit now.

Take a step back and think before you speak, your real accent will come back, I wouldn't worry too much though

  2. Maybe you're subliminally doing it.  You started when you heard something and now you've forgotten about it.  And you might be thinking really hard about it which causes you to do it more.

When I wasn't married, my last name was still Araújo-Delgado and people assumed I was Mexican, so I put on airs and I would speak with a Mexican accent so they would leave me alone, and then I did a couple times without realizing it and my family would ask, "What's up with your accent?" lol

  4. Here's what is probably happening: when you're at home, you're surrounded by other people with similar accents, so by comparison, you think you sound normal.

Then, you go out and are surrounded by native English speakers and can suddenly hear your accent more clearly.

My parents have accents, although I do not, having been born here. With time, their accents have lessened, but I think their speech will always be slightly affected. You could try speech therapy...

  5. well, it depends what accent you have and what

accent you want to talk in because there's the american,

british, and aussie accent. Just practice talking to them in

the way you want to talk to. Talk more slowly, and think what

you're gonna say first before you say anything.
