Question:

How to stop while ice skating?

I have been ice skating about 12 times and I can't stop. I am using Nike Bauer XXII Hockey Skates, how can I stop? I am not even worried about hockey stopping yet, I just want to stop in general. Any help with stopping will be appreciated. Best answer will be one that helps with both stopping and hockey stopping. Thanks.

  1. One stop is called the snowplow stop. This is where you bend your knees then push both legs/skates out with extreme force into the ice. The trick to this is making sure you get both skates strong enough into the ice so you stop.

Another stop(which is my personal favorite) is the hockey stop. This is where you skate forward then glide your dominate leg/skate in front of you and push outward.

For both of these stops you want to make some snow.

The video will explain to you how you do it.
