I have a 10 year old mare that has lime. She is on med. for it now, but her legs are very stiff at the beginning of a ride. They are also very stiff after stopping for over a minute of time. Do you have any tips on how to stretch her or make her less stiff?

  1. well start off like you are about to clean her hooves. once she lifts he leg just pull outwards instead of inwards. i had to do that when my horse had cinch/girth sores so the sores weren't under the cinch/girth it helped a lot and he got a good stretch out of it. if u need me to be morse specific e mail me. hope she doesnt kick you.

  2. BEST WAY EVER!!!!------ this is how ya do it! take her front legs and bring them foward till theyre stretched out, then she will stretch down into her back wich will help with the back legs too.- hold each leg for about 30 seconds or so.

    hope i helped!

  3. i have stretched a rubber band but i have no idea on how to stretch a horse baby

do u want it to be taller or what?

  4. Everyone else has great ideas but what I do w/ the horse I ride which is 27 yo, I do carrot stretches b4 I ride heres how you do it:

split a carrot into 3 pieces

let your horse see the carrot

put it to the back to the horses shoulder blade and make him strech 4 it

then do it to the other side

then put the last piece of the carrot in between the horses legs and make him strech

    *hope this helps:)

  5. literally, stretch her.

pick up her back hooves, and stretch them as far back behind her as she will let you without resisting. as soon as she resists, hold it there for awhile, then go a little further. next, stretch the same foot toward her belly and repeat the same procedure. you can do this on the front legs by pulling them foward, in front of her.

  6. Sometimes what I do with my mare when she gets a little stiff, is while I am riding her I will pull the reign to bend her neck and make her nose touch my shoe. Another thing I like to do to stretch her legs (only do this with the front legs) is act like you are picking it up to clean out her feet, but then pull it out forward. Make SURE you pull it forward and not to the side though. Good luck.

  7. I had a horse like this who I would put lidamint on their legs and rub them for a long time both before and after. it smells like mint. I guess its the equivalent of icy hot for horses. good luck
