My husband has been in the army for twelve years, In May of 07 he was wounded in Iraq and now he is probably going to be medically retired from the military. I'm curious if anyone has suggestions of what we can do next. Housing wise I mean we have lived in military housing his whole career so we have been dependent on that and now that he is probably going to be put out we have no idea where we are going to live. Are credit isn't the best and we don't have much for savings. We also have five kids. So if anyone knows any programs or help we could get I would appreciate the suggestions. Thx

  1. proof : Have as many children as you want in the military, because its cheap to have them in the Military Hospitals!

I hope that you have some skills and some of your children are old enough to work!

12 years in the military and no savings? bad planning on your part!

You need settle in a city where there's a VA Hospital or Military Medical Center.

  2. Mr Puma's advice is good. To expand on it let me say don't stop there. Contact the VFW, the city council where you will be moving, the Army/USMC/USAF/USN association in that area, etc..

They'll help with finding a job and a house. You don't have to go it alone. Get the help you deserve.

One other thing. If living near a base and VA is possible do it. Commissary privileges and proximity to a VA will make adjusting to civilian life easier.

  3. Call this number RIGHT NOW. They will get you to where you what to go.

  4. You might want to check with ACS (Army Community Services) as well and get on a budget now.

Check in with ACAP as well depending on his rating he might qualify to be able to work.  They also set up workshops to help with resumes etc.

This is just the VA link but you might find info there to help you out...http://www.va.gov/

    Good luck.
