  1. Watch the professionals on TV.  They take a long measured backswing and then swing smoothly, but with acceleration through the ball.  The key is having a good tempo.  Try counting to 4 during your swing.  1 start backswing, 2 mid backswing, 3 top of backswing, 4 hit the ball.  Another way to "feel" the acceleration you want, is to turn the club around and hold it by the clubhead.  Now swing with acceleration and you want to hear the "whoosh" sound at the bottom of the swing.    Finally, get a lesson.

  2. Speed is the key.  Swing hard, and you tense up and actually swing slower.  You want the club to whistle through the air.  Think fast.

  3. First is to develop your core muscles to prevent injuries.  Once that's done, learn to "wind-up" your upper torso (from the navel up).  Don't rotate the pelvic bone more than 45-degrees.

On the downswing release the tension in the pelvic-spine area and let the hands and club whip through the swing.

Follow through the clubhead acceleration 10-inches past the tee before settling for the finish.

This theory does not take into consideration clubhead speed, club loft, spin rate and trajectory.

  4. having someone show you will work better than reading it in a paragraph or 2.

Look for a Golf Driving Range near you, and take a 4, 5, or 6 iron with you.

have a look at the others practising and see who is hitting best, then set yourself near them to copy them.

... they may even offer you a couple of tips to hit further
