  1. Use your body to follow through, and you don't really worry about how FAST you swing but how HARD you hit it..also try to do a full swing and not a short one..read this article:

  2. you dont exactly have to "swing faster"...

most volleyball players dont even use their arm to force the ball over the net.. they use their whole body.

you step forward right so you can reach out (but not too far) to hit the volleyball... it creates an extra force..

Also you have to be at a certain angle from the net so you can twist your torso/hips to help create more power to your hit.

Lastly, using your arms to swing hard at the ball gets the ball to your opponents.

Work out your arms if you need more power, especially your shoulder muscles.

  3. You need to warm up before swinging say, a spike serve. You start slowly then go faster and faster. Just not super fast right away. It is the elbow motion that needs to be super fast, ie. bent elbow that straightens out, upon contact with the ball, you add the extra wrist action - to add spin. You use your shoulder least. You don't use your shoulder muscles - some spikers do use extra shoulder motion, but they'll pay for that later on, with an aching shoulder. To avoid that injury later - don't use your shoulder - but make use of your elbow.

You just need to hit the top of the net - if the ball goes over, then you got your spin going.

You can always practice spiking, against a wall. Throw the ball up and then spike it normally against the wall. This is good practice before a game, or just spike at your team mates in the warm up - dig, set and spike at each other.

You can purchase a cheap practice volleyball, which can be used outside anywhere against any surface (don't do this to an expensive indoor volleyball) - and put in regular 15 to 20 mins spiking practice against a wall - this will get your serves and spikes going well. In a month you will be as good as you want to be...

  4. You are not just using your arm, use your body, put more "oomph" in it, and follow all the way through the swing just like you would for a spike.

  5. if you ever played softball or baseball, your basically using that pitching motion.I always remember to 'toss, step, hit' also if your toss is bad, your serve will be bad.

  6. you don't just use your arm you use your entire upperbody. some people use all there weight to swing harder(like me) but it also helps to lift weights to gain some stregth in your upper body

  7. try overhand spikes... all u need to do is throw it up and spike it wen serving but do not pass the white line or it will be illegal....for underhand-u close your fists and punch the ball with ur wrist and will send the ball flying to the air(over the net)

  8. practice hitting the ball against the wall. it warms your arms up. also it kind of helped me to instead of starting with my arm up after i toss the ball throw my arm up & hit it. it gets your arm going faster. but idk just do wall hits. where you bounce them to the floor and they hit the wall and back to your hand...
