Question:

How to take care of a Wild Baby Rabbit?

I found a nest in my backyard with 3 wild baby rabbits. All of their eyes are open, they are moving around, breathing fine. I put to sticks over the nest to make an "X" and came back the next day and its still the same meaning the mother hasn't come back. I gave them lettuce and they started eating it right out of my hand, they even let me pet them. They don't shake or nothing seems to be wrong with them. They can fit in the palm of my hand. But I’m afraid that the wild cats running around might get them. I have a Bunny cage from my old rabbits, and a water bottle, stuff like that, so what should I do?

What do they need?

Food?

Water?

Milk?

Please Help.

Thank You!

  1. If you are sure their mother is not coming back, take them in and feed them. If they eat normally, feed them veg and rabbit food. If they are not eating by themselves you need to bottle feed them milk or feed them baby cream with a syringe. If you are not sure, do both for a few days, so that you make sure they eat some. Remember they also need water.

  2. DO NOT TAKE IN WILD RABBITS, sooner or later they will die of depression.  The best thing you could do right now is keep them in your back yard and just make sure to take food and water to them.  Putting them in a cage might seem like a good idea but it is probably the worse

  3. The rabbits are gonna die, they have no chance of survival. Congrats!

  4. Rabbits can often have several openings to a burrow so think very carefully before removing them.  You could leave some fruit and vegetables (http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content... gives a list of suitable fruit and veg.  Don't give them iceberg lettuce as this is poisonous) and a bowl of water down for them and keep a close eye over the next few days.  If you decide to put them in your old hutch, disinfect it thoroughly before transferring them, and make sure they have plenty of space to run about.  I would also recommend a trip to the vet for vaccinations and sexing, so they don't produce more and more babies!

  5. Lucky :o

  6. ...The mother didn't come back because you disturbed the nest.

You basically condemned the babies to abandonment.

If they were alive, with open eyes, they clearly had survived that long and had therefore not been abandoned.
