  1. Do not pop a blister ever. The fluid inside the blister actually helps with the healing process. If it pops on its own that's okay, but it will hurt more once it pops. Keep it clean and dry and try to protect it from being bumped until it heals.

  2. Try to not pop it as long as you can... the fluid does help some with healing. But if it is too much pressure, just use a sterilized sewing needle and poke two holes in it and let it drain on its own (i.e. do not push the fluid out). Then cover it with a band aid and if you can some duct tape. I know it sounds weird but duct tape is thick enough to protect your blister from any rubbing and will not fall off. I use it on my blisters when I go backpacking or running.

  3. Sterilize a sewing needle or pin by holding it over a flame for a few seconds. Use this to make a small hole in the bubble, drain the fluid by pressing on it gently. Cover with a bandage to allow the skin to heal without rubbing away further.

  4. I disagree.  Once the blister is a few days old its purpose is served, as ha the lymph (the fluid which fills it).  Boil some water, add a little antiseptic, get a needle and steep it in the hot water for a minute or so; gently pierce the outer surface, remove the needle and press lightly on the opposite side.  Drain the fluid.

If you're feeling brave, take a sharp pair of small scissors and trim the dead skin from around the base.  You should be left with a round, red patch set a few layers of skin beneath the surface.  Gently dry it (dabbing), then leave it to air for half an hour.  It may be tender still but this is normal.  After this, if you are using your finger still, use DRY bandages, not elastoplast or anything sticky.

You do not need to leave it until it vanishes completely.
