I just got a pet mouse, and I'm new to the small pet thing and I just wanted to know how to take care of it, and what supplies I need etc..

Right now I have him in a little cage, but it seems kind of small, what size is best for it?

  1. how big is it? get him some toys and stuff, and he will be happy. Take him out to play with as well. Just type caring for a pet mouse or something into google

  2. Check out this website: http://www.petwebsite.com/mice/mouse_car...

  3. Try getting a metal wired cage 12x10x10. You need a wheel for them to run, a bowl with mouse food, a water bottle, bedding, a house, and a toilet paper roll for entertainment. That is it. You can find all of these except for the metal cage at Petco.com. You can also get a mouse cage made of plastic there. It will cost around $75 to $100.

    Hope this helps.

  4. Here are some good websites on mouse care:

  5. The cage that I would get would be one where the bar spacing is so small they cant get there head through. Typically if a mouse can get its head through a hole then it can squeeze its whole body through. And plastic cages are not good for rodents. Rodents are considered destructive chewers and a mouse could do serious damage to a plastic cage. Get a metal one. Make sure if you get one with levels and the levels are like a metal mesh type that you put old towels or something down so there feet arnt on that all the time. They could get a serious infection like bumble foot if there feet are left to walk on

those bars all the time. As for food rat and mouse food that is bought by 2 or 5 pound bags is not healthy for them. It says that it is but like any animal they will pick out what they want and leave the rest. They do make rat and mouse lab blocks that are good for them and have everything they need in the lab block. My rats refuse to eat these so we had to start giving them a vegetarian dog food for older dogs that doesnt have alot of protein in it. You can also substitute there diet with fruits and vegetables. My girls like blueberries, carrots, strawberries, peas, spagetti noodles and boiled eggs. At the end of this I will make a list of everything they can eat. As for cage accesories you will need bedding, a food bowl, water bottle, toys. My rats love the hard plastic cat balls. As for bedding I use carefresh. It doesnt give my girls respitory infections. Other good beddings are Soft Sorbant, and Yesterdays News. Some rat and mouse owners also like Aspen. It gave all of my girls horrible respitory infections so we dont use it. NEVER use pine or ceder bedding. It will cause respitory infections. You can also get him a roll around ball for around 10 dollars.
