I have a baby bird that was on the ground, I picked it up with a cloth so my sent wan't on it, I put it back in the nest. It is on the ground again. I brought it inside, and gave it some water in a dropper. It took it and swallowed. It doesn't have it's eyes open yet, but is getting some starter feathers. Any ideas?

Happy taking of your bird and I hope your bird grows up strong and healthy :)

    Good luck!

  4. I found an awesome website for you. I will post it below so you can see it but I'll give you a little over view.

Your baby bird should be kept in a cardboard box indoors away from your pets and children and out of sun or drafts. The temperature in the box needs to be around 80ºand 90º F. A lamp with a 40 or 60 watt bulb should provide enough heat for your little birdy, but don't put the lamp directly over the it. If its fully feathered you wont need this.

Cover the box to cut down on irritating the bird, get rid of drafts, and prevent the bird from getting out of the box. Put an artificial nest made of a cottage cheese or similar container lined with paper towels in the box. When the bird begins to get out of this "nest", provide a perch or two for it to rest on. Do not use a wire cage--birds often will get excited and damage their feathers on wire so that they won't be able to fly properly later.

For feeding it needs to be fed every 30 minutes from morning to night. Only one person should feed it to avoid human contact. The food should be at room temperature and very soft. Your little birdy wont need water as long as the food is very moist.

You know there is sooo much information on this site that is useful I think I will just give you the link to save time for both you and me. :) good luck with the birdy

  5. Try to put it back on the nest... if the youngster has been totally abandoned by the hen you may feed the youngster with a small amount of cooked oatmeal + evaporated milk then use a medicine dropper or a 2cc syringe as a feeding instrument. Just make sure that your prepared food is not too cold or hot.

Try to check if the bird crop is full (when it is full it is an indicator that the youngster is not yet hungry). Always try to check your bird every hours... so that you can monitored the youngster's status when it is time to feed or not..

Use a fine shave and put it in a small container that will serve as a new nest for the bird. The fine shave serves as a warm comforter for the baby bird.

  6. If it is unfeathered...then look for a nest and if you can find it...replace it into the nest. You say you did this, and the bird is a woodpecker...did you replace it into it's cavity?  Woodpeckers would not build a nest that you could see..it would be inside a hole in a tree..just wondering if you replaced it into some other birds nest.   Do not worry about your scent being on the chick..birds have a very poorly developed sense of smell and will NOT reject a baby that has been touched.  If you cannot find a nest, or if the bird ends up on the groudn again,  get the bird to a local wildlife rehab for it's best chance of survival.  Also, keep in mind, it is illegal for you to try and raise this bird on your own.  Look for a rehab here:

  7. do you know what kind of bird it is? this is very important as to what to feed it.  if it's  a baby robin you can take tweezers and feed it small pieces of night crawlers or mill worms ,small bugs,  when you put the worm close to it's beak if it doesn't open it's mouth by it's self  tap it very gently on the beak and it will open it's mouth. give 2 to 3 pieces of the worm every 3 hours or so.

  8. um no you can keep it.

but don't plan it being alive to long,

uaslly it's pushed out of the nest bc the mother can sense a problem w/ it.

    um,

    it cant eat bird food.

so i would look it up online or something

i know i person who raisded a blue bird
