Beta Fish help needed

Intro: I just got a male betta fish and I have no exp, I just had a goldfish before.

The tank is 2.65 gal /10L with one small filter, a plastic plant and a thermometer.

So, I got some questions:

1) How often should I change the water per week? 25 or 50%? If you can give me more details here... i used filtered water for the first time, rain water is good?:D jk

Important: Can I change the water with the beta fish in the tank?

2) Can I add a female beta fish in the tank? Again, the tank is 2,65 gal/10 L.

PS i was readin on the net that the female and male attack each other also, how do they make babies then? I know that i can NOT add a male one.

3) From the net sources, I understand they need some salt. I got water conditioner, now about salt, I got some aquarium salt for freshwater fish, still can I use it for my tropical fish?

4) Can I use the filter at the lowest level?

PS thank you all in advance and please tell me the source of your info

  1. u dont need a filter he can be in a small bowl thing that you can buy at petstores and its cheep easy to clean also you can put it almost anywhere

  2. Hi there, I'm 23 years old, I own fish!

1.) I own 2 male betta fish in separate fish bowls, I change the water about once a week yes, get a fish net transfer fish into another dish while cleaning other using soap detergent.  They are not picky as to what type of water you use, just use normal tap water keep it warm.

2.) Yes you can add a female betta fish in with the male, there are different breeds from the betta fish but yeah ask you nearest pet store.

3.) I dont put salt in with my two separate betta fish, but I do use in in my 10 gal tank along with the tropical tetras, swordtails and algae eater.

4.) Yeah since your tank seems to be pretty small, smallest setting would be great.

I know this since I do own fish!  experienced.

  3. well well well...

    betas are great for beginners..

    1.  change the water about once a week, but put the fish in a different container while doing so.

    2. you should ask the pet store what kind of betas will mate, etc

    3. water conditioner is great, that should be the ONLY chemicals you use... salt- IF you add any (you dont really need to) only add a VERY small amount.. like 1/4 of a teaspoon or less. salt is just good for their color and has some nutrients. make sure its aquarium salt though. one more thing... NEVER use soap and/or detergent to clean any fish tank/bowl. it will make your fish sick!!

    4. you dont really need a filter. most people keep betas in tiny 5 inch bowls. as long as you change the water regularly,  you shouldnt have any worries.

    =] hope this helps!

  4. http://www.aquariumguys.com/betta-fish-c... go there...

    good luck!

  5. 1)Use aged water as in left out tapwater for in a jar or so for .24hrs and yes you can change all the water(just changed the water today lol)

2)I dont syggest you add a female and yes they will fight as in both will but first the male will harass the female first but for me,the next day my female destroyed my male and shredded half of his body so dont house them together unless you might have the same tank as i do and it has thoes slits at the top ,so you can get a peice of plastic and seperate them.

If you want to breed them, email me cause lucky for you,im a breeder!(ill fill you in on all the facts and have all the answers to all your questions just try me)!

They breed when the male is flaring at the female alot and the female isnt scared (showing horizontal lines) and is showing readyness for breeding(showing verticle lines on the side of her body)

3)You dont need salt as in not required, conditioner is good enough so you dont need to waste some money. But if youre going to use it,add 1-2 pinches of it.

4)You can use the filter at any level oh you have a filter, then you dont need any water changes for a long time, about 2-4 months, but the filter has to be able to suck up all the p**p at the lowest level or it would be just a useless clump of dripping and splashes that keep you up at night.

I hope i helped, feel free to email me any q's on bettas!
