How to take good water reflection photos?

i found a random photo on flickr

and was wondering if there are tips on having a photo turn out really clear in the reflection like that

or is it done with a photo editing program?

  1. Yes, the answer is to wait for the water to be totally mirror-still, with no ripples. usually this means very early in the morning on a calm day, before the land has had a chance to heat up and cause little ripples to form. You may have to use a ND filter to balance the exposure of the reflection properly.


  2. It is not done in editing. The way to get the reflection to be really clear is to take the shot when the water is perfectly still. Any movement in the water will effect the refection.

  3. having good knowledge of shutter speed aperture and iso
