  1. To move a baby grand piano, you hire a professional piano moving service. You do not take the legs off and you do not stand the piano on end. Look in the Yellow Pages for a professional service. Otherwise, you will damage the piano and defeat the whole point of the gift.

  2. Often the legs on a grand is held in place by bolts which extend into the wooden frame of the piano and the legs may even be slot fitted to the case.  A light hit by a rubber mallet will dislodge the leg from the piano body.  And take note that professional piano movers will remove not only the legs, but the pedal assembly in order to place the piano on a vertical slide which is then moved on a dolly assembly.

    Good luck!
