How to take the motherboard out of a Dell Dimension 2400.?

I have a Dell Dimension 2400, and I am looking to move it onto a new case, since the dell one fell completely apart. I unscrew all of the screws that I see holding the motherboard on the regular case, but there is still one corner that refuses to come off. I tried to remove the other side of the case to get it out, but that part of the case is unmovable, I took all of the other things out of the case as well, and that one part of the motherboard refuses to budge.

  1. Dells suck.. They made it so you can't move it around.  Anyways my cousin had one and he did the same thing.  He had to rig some of his own stuff up. Depending on your case also it won't fit I am sure.  If you are going to throw the case away I would just get some metal cutters and look around.

  2. Here is a link to the Service Manual which shows the steps to remove the motherboard: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/sy... The motherboard should be able to be removed without damaging it.

Please note it can be difficult to get the motherboard to work in a non-Dell case.

    I hope this helps.

  3. Dell motherboards are attached to a removable metal plate that includes the I/O shield covering the ports on the back. The whole thing slides out with some effort before you even remove any screws. Likely this is why you can't unscrew it completely, because you have to take out the plate and mobo together first.

But, like the other poster said, not only will it not fit in your new generic case because the s***w holes are different, but the power button, case speaker, and other front plugs wires in your new case are not compatible with your Dell motherboard. You would have to remove the Dell case wiring, connected to the Dell mobo, and identify, label, and then cut the wires and twist, perhaps solder, and heat shrink them together in order to even turn the computer on in its new case.
