  1. If you want your hamster to like you.. i wouldn't pick it up by its fur.  When I got my first hamster I did my homework next to its cage and tried to be around it as often as possible.  Stick your hand in the cage... don't go anywhere near the hamster just lay your hand down in the bedding.  Your hamster will most likely come up and sniff you.  It will get used to your scent and you being around it often, this will definately come in handy when youre trying to play with it etc.

Take her/him[you said both in the question] out of the cage atleast twice a day during for the next week or so will make a huge difference.  If you can find a room in your house where there are no vents or anyting for him/her to get into try sitting in there and letting him/her run around while you do your homework or watch TV or anything.  But sit on the floor so she/he can run up to you at any point in time.  After doing this a few times your hamster will see you as a safe house... He/She will learn to trust you just by being around you.  My Syrian hamster[whose name is Kevin] will fall asleep next to me while I watch TV.

Oh! and having a little pile of sunflower seeds doesnt hurt either! Try getting him/her to eat out of your hand, that will help alot too!

Good Luck! Hamsters are awesome pets!

  2. i just be nice i give it a carrot and let it get use to it and evetually it will do this natural and let it get setelld first and then try picking it up good luck oh and DON NOT ON ANY ACASTION PICK IT UP BY FUR OR BACK IF IT BITE UR CALMLY SET IT DOWN DONT THROW IT

  3. i would just sit by it everyday adn when it comes out, start to stick your hand in there, soon he'll crawl into your hand and you can hold him... i wouldn't pick him up by the back of it's neck, it's not a puppy.

  4. You are doing the right thing. Keep spending time with her. You should wake her in the evening to she isn't grumpy.

It doesn't hurt them when you pick them up by the scruff properly, but don't do it too much. I do that to my hamsters sometimes, when they are just being bratty..

PS: You spell it 'Hamster' not 'Hampster'
