Apply mud to the seams, cover with tape, apply more mud over the tape, feathering out the edges. Let dry, then sand the joint to smooth. Re-apply mud to areas that are low, allow to dry and sand again until smooth.

For small holes, simply fill with mud and let dry, then sand smooth.
