How to teach NO...?

usually how old is a baby when they start learning how to comprehend what no means? my son is 10 months when i say no, i stop him from what he is doing and get him to do something else. but first i say his name and no like 4 times before i go correct him to do something else. will he learn what no means by doing this? or should i swat his hand?

  1. Your son already knows what the word no means, but he is going to continue to see if you really mean what you say.  That's normal and some kids need more than just a no, like a time out.  At his age time outs should be very short, but can still be useful.


  2. Well he's only a baby so it's not really any wonder he doesn't completely understand the English language yet. No need to swat his hand, just keep doing what you're doing and show him by example.

  3. You are doing right.  He will catch on.  If he continues to do what you tell him not to do, a swat on the hand will not hurt, especially if he is touching something hot, or something that is dangerous..
