  1. HAVE THEM PLAY BALL.practice makes perfect

  2. Ever watch a T-ball game for first timers???  Absolutely hilarious!!!  Video tape a local game of one of these and show it as your first class.  You should, by the end of this video have created the 2 teams (don't let the kids pick--make them work together no matter their differences, it's part & parcel of the game.

From this they will see for themselves the basics of the game...your job--details & strategies to get the points. Day 2:  Allow each person to experience the tools--bats, mitts, ball, head gear...before end of class have each team gather & all run the bases into the locker room... by now you can probably see who will be best for which positions, but here's the probability:

Use your most incorrigable of students...the outgoing, super energy kids as your 1st bases, short stops, pitchers, & catchers.  Rarely do these kids "team" well since they all want to be numero uno, but this shows them that teamwork works.  The non-athletic types will rarely change, so you put these guys/gals in the outfields...the goal being that since they would be catagorized as the weak zone, what a way to inspire heavier hits, at the same time, giving these out-kids opportunity to move & pay attention to the game without reat pressure.  Those with ability but not so much condition can fill the other two bases, and be exchangers for the tougher pos.

Unfortunately, 8 wks. doesn't allow for finding the right person for each spot, nor much in rotating to explore such, but the above will give you a good beginning set up to work with so they all get the gist of the game plan, team effort, tools, & strategies that come with baseball.

Your second to last class should be showing video pics of first game they played and the last game they played so they can see the differences in themselves in that 8 weeks--point out "unseens" like how their stances & tool use changed with confidences, how reaction times quickened with use--these can be compared to life skills at the same time.  Your last class should be a trip to your local minor's game--shows how baseball supports their community when they see how many people come to those games...and the food--Yummm!!!

Do your best, Coach...just remember...it's a game!!! Have much FUN!!!

    Good Journey!!!
