I'm with Redman on this. Aggression usually clouds your thought and doesn't let you play your natural game. If he had more skills then he wouldn't need aggression. Plus I personally don't think its healthy for a 9 year old to take sport to seriously, it's supposed to be fun.

you just need to keep *gently* reinforcing that the reason you wear all the pads and equipment is so that you can tackle each other and not get hurt.  it's OK to do it, it's what is expected in the game.  also, watch pro or college football with him.  believe me, he won't reach 10 without "getting it" !!

tell him, if he pushes 10 people over in a match then you'll get him a wii game or something. Or get him to channel his anger

Why the h**l should he be agressive, to satisfy YOUR agressive tendancies?

Let the kid enjoy the game, he will learn enough about agression when he gets older, let him have his childhood and fun!

Not the best idea. You should help and encourage him to develop his skill base. All the champion players have great talent and are assertive not aggressive.

I think this will come with maturity. My son, now 14, has finally found his aggressive side on the soccer field. As a young boy he wasn't aggressive at all. We wanted so bad for him to be tough and plow through the herd of little soccer players. He just stood on the outside waiting. Some boys are just more aggressive from the start. Don't worry or belittle him for not being aggressive.

play rough games with him like wrestling. also feed him foods to help gain weight because if hes chubby young and he plays football he'l get heavy but muscular in years to come. let him think he can win nething so he has confidence and beat him at some things so he'l think he can always win at football no mater what. the agression WILL come.
