  1. Making up songs to the tunes of well known songs always helps.  In my classroom, we use well known nursery rhymes to learn our letters and words by practicing saying them as a class, then we say them with a partner, the children also circle letters and words that they know.  They then go home and "read" them to their parents.  Of course, they are really only reciting them from memory, but by pointing at the words as they say them, it helps them gain recognition.

We also use AlphaFriends at my school.  We introduce a new friend a week.  Each AlphaFriend is shaped like their letter and has a name to go with it.  For example, there are Sammy Seal, Tiggy Tiger, Mimi Mouse, etc.  I don't know how available they are to the public, but I did find these links for you:

  2. The best way to teach children is to start with the things around the house.Things that a child sees everyday and can associate with. This ensures fast learning.for e.g you could teach "A" when u serve an apple to the child."B" when u r playing with a bat etc...along with this get flash cards for the alphabets

  3. You can use rhymes to teach them colors too.

Example sung to the tune of Are you sleeping.

R.E.D red R.E.D. red I can spell red, I can spell red. Fire-trucks are red, stop signs are red too R.E.D.

Sung to the song of If your happy and you know it.

Y.E.L.L.O.W spells yellow. Y.E.L.L.O.W.spells yellow. Like the bright new sun, when the day has just begun, Y.E.L.L.O.W. spells yellow. Lemonade and scrambled eggs are yellow, a school bus and yellow ducks are yellow, Like the color of a bee who is making honey. Y.E.L.L.O.W. spells yellow.

  4. Maybe you mean how to teach letters of the alphabet with nursery rhymes.  In preschool, I would teach the nursery rhyme (Hey Diddle Diddle for example) and draw a picture of things in the nursery rhyme (cat, fiddle, cow, moon, etc.)  on sturdy white paper and color them in all nice and pretty and print the first letter of each word under the picture.  Then teach teh preschoolers that cat starts with "c" , fiddle starts with "f", etc. , maybe one letter each day.  You can use the same nursery rhyme for a week or more so the kids will learn it. That way you will have more time to teach the letters that go with the pictures.  There's a cute song to the tune of "The farmer in the dell" that goes " C says "k" (the cound of the letter c), c says "k", every letter makes a sound and c says "k").  Of course you can sing the song for every letter of the alphabet. "D days duh, d says duh, every letter makes a sound and d says duh."  I'd sing that song as I was teaching the kids teh letter that goes with the picture for the day.  And of course, review songs that you used to sing as you move on to new songs.

  5. get a wooden puzzle with all the letters of the alphabet and practise putting them in in-order while saying the letter

  6. Teaching tiny tots is a big challenge and I must say that YOUR keenness on teaching them is really admirable.

Well , to begin with teaching people of any age group is the easiest through entertainment. So buying an useful Compact Disk with nursery rhymes can be of good help. But just playing it would not do any good to the child. We need to teach children with hand gestures and expressions.

Also there are charts available in the market which have the english alphabets ,buying such charts while singing the nursery rhymes will improve the memory of the child and he/she will remember better.Another thing that can be done is-whenever the child asks you a question about a particular new thing that he/she sees explain the thing with the help of alphabets.

I am sure you will do a good job and with experience you will be the best.Good luck with teaching.Take care.
