  1. Eating habits and start telling him/her little bit about A,B,C and about colours.

    teach him.her anything that improves eye-hand co-ordination, increases sense of symmetry. play multiplication tables in the background.

    but dont become a pushy mom!

  3. I've been taking care of my nephew during the day since he turned one(he's now 18 months). We do all sorts of fun stuff and he is eager to learn. He can do alot of different signs like; thankyou, please, nice, book, hat, eat,drink....its really just something to do but it enables him to communicate with us without actually having to clearly say the words.

    We also do alot of reading, singing and dancing. He'll clap and stomp to "if Your Happy & You know it." He knows all of his major body parts too...So really I guess my point is that there are so many things that at 2 years old your child can learn. Their brains are like sponges!!! I don't believe in "pushing" a child however I want to promote his natural desire to learn and explore.

  5. The following is a checklist that I came across when I was working with my 5 year old at that age.  Hope it helps. I'm doing child care presently and my checklist incorporates the majority of what is mentioned below.  Remember a 2 year old learns through play... that is their JOB!  So what you are teaching...do through play and with as much large motor as possible.  For example...Go out to the sidewalk and draw a big icecream cone... write their name in the cone part and one letter of their name (upper case first and then lower case) in each scoop.  Stand with the child at the name and read it together and then jump together to each school while saying the letters.

Skip the baby talk, instead, talk to him/her like any other person.  Just use simple short words i.e.when you feed, say what you're feeding - banana, apple, etc.  Continue this throughout the day, whenever the child picks up something, tell them what it is.  When you sit and cuddle with your child, play with the fingers, counting one finger, etc.  When you dress your child, do the identification thing here as well.  Also, when you read to your child, use your finger to underline all the words so that eventually they will follow your finger as well as the story and begin to identify the word sounds with how it looks.
