i worked at payless until i had my baby and i was partime so there wasnt any maternity leave. My manager just said i could take as much time off as i need and then return when i was ready... i had my baby in march and i just spoke to my manager a few days ago and he asked me when i was thinking about returning. i told him probably in August but my manager is not good at giving hours. Now I have a job interview at valleynational bank and they pay more and there are more hours but if i get the job i dont know how to tell my payless boss i will not be returning...any ideas what should i say should i write a letter??

  1. Be kind, but direct, and say it in writing.  That is MUCH more professional than a phone call.  You may want a reference from this person or the store in the future.  Leave them gently and with grace.

Dear ___, Thank you so much for the kindness and understand you showed me during my pregnancy and maternity leave.  It is with regret that I tell you I have accepted another position [don't need to say more $$] and I will not be returning to Payless.  I have enjoyed working with you.  Yours truly, ______

  2. just say,''hey, this job is paying better, either step ya game up or im leaving.'' ur probably gonna get better answers, but might as well laugh about the situation.

    Congratz on ya baby boy.

  3. In person would be best. Simply tell your boss that right now you need to focus on your child and providing a good home for the baby. Let your manager know that you are sorry but you will not be returning to work there. That is all you really need to do.

  4. Just call him and say that you are no longer able to work there. If you think you will still be on good terms when you tell him, try to tell him in person.

  5. Easy street this one.

Just make an appointment to see him, thank him for employing you in the first instance and for his interest and concern for you, but tell him you have" inadvertantly" come across this other position at the national bank, explain it involves more hours and a higher pay rate and would fit in with your baby etc better.

Tell him you would really like to give it a go

    Bye.

  6. I would call him and thank him for the opportunity and let him know that you are looking for employment outside the retail sector and there for won't be returning. Just be as nice and thankful as possible! :)

    Best of luck!

  7. Just call him up and say that you won't be returning to work.  You can give a little white lie and say you are staying home with the kid or tell the truth, that you found another job with more hours.

Thank him for being a good boss and apologize for not being able to return to work for him.

Do this after you get the other job.
