I would like to know how you can tell if a graphics card is PCI-E 1.0 or 2.0 as it never says it on the labels.

  1. There were PCI-E 1.0 cards made, but only for a short time. The main version is PCI-E 1.1  How to tell physically, whether you're looking at a PCI-E 1.1 version card, or a PCI-E 2.0 card? You can't! Unless you know graphics chipsets by heart! (But if you do, you'd know the card in your hand is PCI-E 1.1, or PCI-E 2.0 by knowing the card itself. The manufacturer and model.)

So, the best way is to look the card up on the 'net, or if it's in a computer now, I would use CPU-Z from CPUID.com, or GPU-Z.

    1.GPU-Z http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/115...

(Of course you can just click on Start>Right-click on My Computer>Left-click on Properties>Hardware tab>Device Manager>then click on the + sign next to Display Adapters, but all you'll get is the name of the graphics adapter, and then it's off to the 'net for info.)
