  1. Hi,

You said it is about your sister.  That's great you want to help her with the food she needs to eat and to avoid, due to health reasons.  Your mom or dad really needs to be the main one to tell her she cannot.  But you can help.  Some ideas:

    1.  Encourage everyone in your house to not eat sugar foods in front of her.  Put the snacks in higher places or cupboards that close so she can't see them.

    2.  Can she eat fruit, or sugar substitutes?  If yes, some fruits and sugar free foods can be ok, like sugar free lollipops, grapes, raisons, etc.  Ask your mom or dad to stock up on those foods for her.  There are other snack foods that could be yummy special treats for her also.  There are sections in the grocery store that have organic and sugar free foods.

    3.  She could have other special things besides snacks to help her feel like she is not being denied, like little collectibles, stickers, small toys as "treats".

It is really hard, but many kids today do have special diets.  Teachers and schools have to accommodate.

Give her lots of love, attention, and also distraction from the things she can't have.  Kids really just want love and to have fun.  Lots of other ways to get that!

  2. Just say no.

If she really can't have ANY candy or sugar, you shouldn't have any in the house. It's not right or fair.

Tell her she has every right to throw a fit, but she has to do it in her room. The end.

  3. Don't keep it around. Don't buy it. Just say no.

  4. tell her that regular candy and other sugary things will make her feel sick. provide her with a special stash of diabetic candy and packets of splenda.

  5. Well, as the sister, its not your place to discipline her.  Its the parents responsibility.  As for my kids, I just tell them "no".  No means no and that's that.  They can throw tempers tantrums if they want, but they still aren't getting any candy.  I just ignore them and walk away.  Throwing a fit gets no reaction out of me anymore.

  6. Your parents shouldn't provide it in the house.  Its that simple.
