I read this claim somewhere: to detect irregularities of pulse or breath and a widening of pupil are good ways to decide whether someone tells the truth or not

what happen to the pulse, breath and pupil when people tell lies??

  1. I am a psychology major and I have been playing poker for about 5 years now. The way to tell is the pupil will dilate rapidly and breifly, the pulse rate and blood pressure will increase (watch the jugular) and breath will quicken and shorten. Eventually, if you try to notice this on a regular basis, it will become instinctive and you can almost always know when someone is lying to you. Listen to the voice as well, it may raise in pitch and become shaky. There are many "tells" that you can observe but it is something that you need to practice looking for on many different subjects.

  2. This is actually what polygraph tests measure.

However, it is sometimes hard to distinguish if it is a lie or something that the person is very emotional about.

It think the statistic is that a polygraph can tell someone is lieing about 80% of the time in about 80% of the population.

  3. B-Mar is right.
