Hello,

I just adopted 2 Sun Conures from 2 diff. homes. Well, I was told Pebbles is a Female because she has layed eggs before. And Harley, they were not sure of the s*x on Harley. Well, I put them Both in a Large Cage. After a couple days they got Very close to each other were they will not even leave each others side. Then right out of the Blue Harley Started to Bang his beak on the Perch in front of Pebbles and then they started to fight for 1 second and then looked like they were attached to each other kind of side to side. it went on for about 5 minutes. from there on they never leave each others side. Do you think they were mating? And if so, how long tilll Pebbles would lay her eggs? Just let me know what you think! Thanks for your time!

  1. The beak banging on the perch in front of the mate, and the mating with one foot on the perch and the birds kind of off to the side of each other (they contort their rumps) is very typical of south american species courtship and mating. Usually the male will be the one who is toward the top and the female underneath to the side...but sometimes it can be the other way around! They will probably mate for several days and then pebbles will lay. Probably anywhere from 7 to 14 days and she will lay her eggs. It definatley sounds to me like you have some mating going on...I'm not an expert, I'm always learning. I'm just a hobby breeder. Most of my birds are south american species. The beak banging is very typical of what a male will do during the courting and mating process.

  2. No I dont think so. Harley would be on top of her if they were mateing.
