How to tell if a ballet class is any good?

There's bound to be bad ones out there... so I'm just wondering, how would a beginner know if a class wasn't any good? I mean obviously if the teacher weren't paying attention to them, wasn't teaching - but what if she was teaching, just not...well? say she were teaching the wrong techniques... how would a beginner know this?

  1. First of all the teacher should have a wide variety of songs to play while at the bar, not just a couple, so you know she's prepared

also notice how the other more advanced students look if their very skilled you know you picked a good studio if they look sloppy and untrained i'd suggest leaving

dance teachers should push you to do better and correct you often, a teacher who just sits on a chair and says nothing is not a good one they should be walking around the whole time critquing you and telling you to "reach higher, stand straighte!" also, see if the school has a company or "competiton group" and see if they've won many awards or not, if they have walls and walls of trophys its a sure fire they know what their doing

if the studio doesn't strech properly befoure dancing, their not any good, streching is just as importain as the teacher at my studio if you come in late and miss the stretching you can't particpate. Safety is KEY!

Finally, use your instinct if it seems like a good studio is might be

  2. see if you can just go and watch 1 day or talk to people that are in it that you know and probably trust

  3. take a class. is the teacher encouraging her students to do their best? how are the other students performing? talk to the other students. see what they like and dislike about the ballet school. that should give you a good idea of how things are run and what its like.

  4. A bad ballet class probably depends on different people. It really depends on what your used to so if you are new it probably wont be to bad... unless it is too hard then they may be pushing too hard

  5. If there students are good.

  6. the teacher has to PUSH her students, not like: "hey you look worn out why don't you stop for the day" no, the teacher has to push the students to their extremes in order for them to succeed. i have changed from 3 ballet schools to this current one i am at right now, they push the students really hard and i have improved a lot. i hope i was at least a bit of help

  7. you can always look up the company on yelp.com

that helps me a lot when i'm unsure.
