Question:

How to tell if my piggy is pregnant?

Hello! I have a little female piggy I have been trying to breed now for a while, I put her with the male 4 weeks ago and recently seperated them, I've been noticing she has been getting bigger by the day but I thought she has just been growing, she eats and drinks like crazy. Doesn't really like being picked up, and when I touch her belly she does squeak. She is pear shaped, what are some signs of the pregnacy? I cannot feel anything in her tummy yet, but her tummy is so round! When it set her on the table her tummy bulges out! But she is almost 5 months old so I don't know if it could be that she is just growing?

Any questions please contact me at sarahelizabeth_757@hotmail.com

Thanks in advance for all of your help!

  1. I've had some similar problems.

I put my Guinea Pigs together in a cage for 7 weeks today.

Possible reasons could be that she is growing, but from my research you put them in a cage for about 4 weeks but i have been doing 7 because my guinea pigs are quite young like yours.

Don't feel around the tummy cause you might accidentally touch something and it may lead to death of baby's or the mother.

The average pregnancy for a female GP so last is 63-75 days.

To be curtain leave them in together for another 2 weeks before taking the male out.

If she isn't that much active anymore, possible chances of pregnancy.

    Good Luck!

  2. Yes it does sound like you have some piggies on the way but there is a possibility that she could have just hit a growth spurt.

My guinea pig is also 5 months old and I have just recently noticed how much shes suddenly grown. However, shes more round than pear shaped.

About a week from the birth it will become more obvious that your guinea pig is pregnant (if she is) so, until then feed her more than usuall and keep an eye on how she is progressing.

    Hope this helps

    Good luck

  3. It's a shame you're adding to the overpopulation issue. There's so many pigs sitting in shelters and rescues.

  4. yes that does sound like pregnancy

but to tell for certain there are only 2 ways

    1. go to the vet

    2. this is the easiest the cheapest and the most for sure....

if she is pregnant you will know because babie piglets will pop out one night!

  5. to me, those sound like signs of pregnancy.
