So I keep on track with my prenatal appointments, been for my 20 week ultrasound, and nothing was ever said. Carrying the placenta posterior and was told that was good. How do they know if they baby is breech? I'm 29 weeks now and it was never any mention of it so am I out of the loop? lol or can it still happen?

  1. They would have told you if the baby was breach.  The baby could still flip at this point, but it does get harder from here on out--esp. for a first baby.

  2. well next appointment ask about it . if u were breech i am almost sure they would tell u because i think they do a c section

  3. That isn't really an issue until late in pregnancy. And even then it can change last minute. My daughter stayed breach the entire pregnancy. You can try and ECV among other things to get the baby to turn if this happens. I highly recommend at least trying it to avoid a c-sections.

My last pregnancy my son was head down at my 36 week check on a Friday and when I went into labor that Sunday night and ended up delivering emergency c-section he was not only breach again but cord around neck x's 2.

  4. you still have about 2 months to go, so the baby is still flipping around in there.  if the baby is breech, they'll know from an ultrasound.  don't worry about it at this point.  even if he does turn breech, there's still a lot of time to flip.  don't worry about breech until you hit 36 weeks.

  5. Once your baby is bigger, 32 weeks +, you will be able to feel around and tell where the baby is. Most practitioners won't even consider it breech before 36 weeks and there is still time for the baby to flip after that.

If you are concerned the Bradley Book has lots of info on breech babies and the website spinningbabies.com tells how to turn a breech baby.

  6. Usually they don't check until around 34-35 weeks. I would ask the next time you have an ultrasound. They will give you another the closer you get or they do give you them more often if you have complications. They did an ultrasound the day before our Daughter was delivered. She was breech, but I also had many complications.I wouldn't worry about it right now since it isn't important until you get closer to delivery. 20 weeks is way to early to even tell if the baby will be breech.

  7. They palpate your abdomen and feel for the body parts of the baby.  At your point in pregnancy, if the baby was head down, the doctor/midwife would be able to grasp the head with her hand right next to your pubic bone.  The bum would be up near your ribs, and you can shift it around, feet to your side.

  8. At this point your baby is flipping around so much, you cant really say if it is going to be breech until later on for sure. No need to worry about that now.

  9. They could tell by an ultrasound..Also you can tell yourself by the baby's movements..

But at 29 weeks is normal for your baby to be breech if he was, because he still has room to move head down in the next few weeks..

Mine was breech at 29 weeks, then at 32 weeks she was head down..

  10. They would know due to the ultra sound. 29 weeks your not even that close to having to worry about a breached baby.

  11. your baby still has plenty of time to flip, they will let you know if it is a problem later on but dont worry now:)

  12. your mw should be feeling the baby at ur appts to see position and it could change position anytime it wants.

    Good luck!

  13. An ultrasound will tell them. But it's too early to know what position the baby will be in when you go into labor, there's still a long time for the baby to flip into the right position, or out of it as the case may be. When you get closer to delivery they will start checking for breech positioning and will try to reposition the baby.
